The Subheading for this Proverb is "Similitudes, Instructions" in my Bible and reveals a thread running throughout the writing that causes us to see the refinement of the Christian spirit. For example, in verses 11 and 12 we read, "Like apples of gold in settings of silver is a word spoken in right circumstances. Like an earring of gold and an ornament of fine gold is a wise reprove to a listening ear." It is a true statement that a timely compliment or a warning prior to a fall is a valuable thing. How do we come to that point in our lives where we know what to say and when to say it? I firmly believe we already possess the ability, but we aren't looking in the right places. There is that old comedy routine line that describes the guy who had had too much to drink and was arguing with the arresting officer. He said he knew he had the right to remain silent, he just didn't have the ability! I believe we to don't realize at times that we have what we need to do the right thing, we just too often don't take the opportunity when it is presented.
Scripture tells us to encourage one another, to pray for one another, to serve one another - bottom line to love another. What does that mean and what is involved in making that happen? We know what it means and we know what is involved - live the life we were called to live in obedience to God's Word. Watch the change take place. Watch the love appear and feel the blessing of living the life you were designed to live.
