We continue the parable of the sower with the seed that is described in 13:7 and 13:22. These had been sown among thorns and soon choked out by them. Jesus explains these are those who hear the word but worry and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word out of them.
We probably all know someone who seemed to be on fire for the Lord then became "disenchanted" because they believed themselves to be invincible due to their newly found faith. Their busy world and cluttered schedules begin to crowd out their faith and biblical worldview. Bible reading is replaced with facebook time. Church attendance is replaced with the kids soccer games and anything else to do with following Jesus is questioned by the necessary changes and surrender of control. The price to pay for the Christian life is replaced with the pursuit of temporary gain.
We live in a time when the world pulls us from many different directions. Jesus said He is THE way. Nothing else matters. It is good to have things, but it is essential to have the Lord. When we allow the world to win - we lose. Are there times you have had to think about what is the right thing to do? Why should you have to think? Paul said in Philippians 3 that whatever he had attained to in the world he now counts as loss in comparison to knowing the Lord. He also said that he wanted to know nothing but Christ. How does that compare to your life? Don't allow the world the choke Jesus out of your life.
